Putting a severely-burned girl back together

Burned with acid at age 15, repaired at 21.

The girl in the video came to see me at Operation Kids after going around Phnom Penh and being told there was nothing that could be done for her.

The scar over her face had to be removed it was like tree bark and had to be removed. I told her I had never done a radial artery forearm flap before but she wanted me to try. I had to wrap her arm up to her head for 5 weeks. If she moved her forearm one inch, the radial artery and vein would have broken with the flap dying and blood going everywhere. AND she would have still had a big hole in her arm in addition to a huge hole in her face.

I invented the technique “Vector Mapping” during this case.

Note: This is a surgical story so it shows a burned patient and surgery. It’s not too bad, though.
